D. Jeffrey Ostling is a published author of short stories and full-length nonfiction. He is the assistant director of the Summer Writers’ Conference at New York University. He has also written, directed, and produced independent television programs and was an assistant producer of Readers Almanac when it aired on National Public Radio.

When not writing, he works as an executive at a leading luxury company in New York and relaxes by reading, watching great films, and listening to classic jazz.

He is also the father of a biracial son and has sought to create, in the fictional character of Van Hazard, someone capable of reflecting the unique challenges and opportunities that confront anyone of mixed race or cultural heritage seeking to balance and celebrate their disparate identity rather than deny or obscure it.

Portrait of Deadly Excess is his first published work of full-length fiction.
